When Disney released the trailer for the live-action Lady and the Tramp movie, I will admit I was excited and a little apprehensive at the same time. I usually find myself a little disappointed with the live-action remakes. A lot of my reasoning behind this is the huge storyline changes that usually occur. Lady and the Tramp is my all-time favorite Disney movie, so I knew I had to watch the live-action version the second I heard about it.
Disney took a risk by not releasing the movie in theaters and only having it available to help drive up the subscriptions for Disney+. Their hope was that it would pay off even more than the box office by making Disney+ the only way to view the film.
As I expected, there were some changes from the original storyline. The live-action version showcases more of Lady’s owners than the original version and there are other subtle changes. One of the big changes was the exclusion of the infamous Siamese cat song. However, I thought they did a pretty good job of sticking to the original storyline and that the changes they made added depth to the story. I also appreciated the fact that they used rescue animals to film the movie and that they were all adopted to new homes when the movie was finished.
I think that this was truly a great remake of an old classic and will definitely watch it again! Viewing this movie will transport you on a journey with the characters in which you can feel their emotions and become invested in their journey. It is my favorite live-action remake that I have seen so far and has now set the bar for all future live-action remakes. So, to answer the question, it is definitely worth the hype.
