Billy Porter Cast As Fairy Godmother In New Live Action Cinderella Movie

Sony Studios, the studios that were recently able to pass a billion dollars at the box office for the second time only because of help from Disney, has decided to take a crack at their own version of the classic Rogers and Hammerstein story; Cinderella. Sony’s first billion dollar hit was James Bond: Skyfall, which was made in partnership with MGM. Recently they were able to hit a billion dollars again thanks to their collaboration with Disney on Spider-Man: Far From Home. This new movie seems like an interesting adaptation choice for Sony, since most people associate the story of Cinderella with Disney, but here we go.

The movie will star singer Camila Cabello playing Cinderella. Cabello is known for the songs Senorita with Shawn Mendes and Havana. This will be her very first acting role so it will be interesting to see how she does, especially in such an iconic role. Idina Menzel, the voice of Elsa in Disney’s Frozen, will be joining the cast as Evelyn, Cinderella’s evil stepmother.

Billy Porter recently confirmed that he’ll also be joining the movie, in the role of the fairy godmother. Porter is an Emmy Award winning actor who won for his role in the FX series Pose, and he also played a warlock in American Horror Story: Apocalypse.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with him, here’s a photo from his Instagram that was taken after he won his Emmy award:

Reactions to the news were mixed, to say the least.

While other people were less enthusiastic about the new Cinderella movie.

There was also mixed reactions.

It will be interesting to see what Sony does with Cinderella, especially since Cinderella is almost universally associated with Disney. What do you think though? Let us know in the comments if you’re going to see this movie, and if you think it will be good!
